I have a problem with my 4wd - well lack of !!

I have front wheel drive only! don't think a half shaft has gone behind, but can't get the 4wd to disengage with the ratio lever - help!

Strange ? are you sure its front wheel drive only?
Landys are perminant rear wheel drive with selectibul front wheel drive.

Most times you cant disengage 4 wheel drive because you have driven it in 4 wheel drive on tarmac and wound up the transfer box.
ONLY USE 4x4 on LOOSE SERFACES.
If this is the case then jack up all four wheels and stick in in 1st for a couple of seconds before disinegaging 4 wheel drive.

Make sure the main and transfer gearbox are in gear, jack up one of the rear wheels, then try turning it. If you can turn the wheel one or more times then you've either bust the diff or a halfshaft, unless the rear propshaft has been removed. It's not that difficult to bust a halfshaft - did it last weekend.

Mine gets stuck in 4wd sometimes. What I do is drive it onto a grass verge or gravel so that one of the wheels can spin and relieve the transmission wind-up.

Definatly in front drive only as it is only used off road so has been in 4wd most of it life! Coming up a grass hill and very little traction could feel just the front gripping!

Round and round the wheel went! - bust half shaft i guess!
