Hi All,

After a little bit of advice, my 2004 1.8 freelancer has developed 'rumblings' when turning right around corners at almost any speed ( Not left).

The symptoms are a general feeling of wheel wobble when cornering and vibration when turning right, it can also be felt throughout the clutch and gear stick, lastly you can hear a grind when braking.

My immediate thought was a wheel bearing but thought I would check with the grater wisdom on this form to see if it may be a driveshaft, IRD or something else, all help / suggestions welcome.

Lastly how hard is a diy bearing change?

Getting the 400Nm nut off the drive shaft will be a problem without kit to do it. I have a cheap 3/4 inch socket set and a torque multiplier. With the engine running get someone to put their foot on the brake while undoing it. You'll need a press to change the bearing over unless you have a garage who will do that bit for you. It can be done diy at home. Make sure you support the Freelander securely if having a go.

When lifting the wheels off the ground is there any play in them or the drive shafts?
