Hi all,
when pulling off in my TD4 there is a rumble from under the back. I have checked the exhaust and all under body panels and they are fine, and i am running in monde mode.I thought it might be mountings of some sort but am not sure.Once 5mph is reached the rumble stops and all is fine.It has been like this for about 6 months now and is really starting to rack me off.Hope some-one can shed some light on this.

Thanks

hang on loaty - i dint say it was deffo those - yu can check fust - do a search on rear diff or bushes or summat - plenty of freds on it.

hi all,
well i have put on new rear diff mounts today (not a hard job) but the hippo still rumbles. As said before it only seems to happen at very low speed (below 5 mph) and yes i am still running in monde mode (2wd).Has anyone got any more ideas please.

Have now checked all of the above and all r ok.Could it be the rear diff?? If so how would i check it.(still in monde mode )

Plenty of oil, only check it a month or so ago.The rumble only seems to happen below 5 mph weather its in gear or not.Its becomeing a real head scratcher.

Ayup Loat, give her a run of 4 or 5 miles, and grab hold of the dif casing: if yer skin comes off or yer smell roast pork kinda smell, yer dif's lunched, and there's yer answer. Rumblin rear dif was always a prob on 2.8 Capri's, usually when the dif oil was either low, wrong oil, shagged or low/gone..;)

So Cashybai, how hot is an acceptable hot on the rear diff. Say after a journy of 20 miles, should it be warm, say 40degrees, or more like 80 degrees?

Well at last i have found where the rumble is coming from, its the exhaust at about 1000 rpm.Its still a bit odd because if you pull very slightly on the back box the rumble stops.Does anyone have any idea how to stop this, is it a case of new exhaust rubbers or could it be knackerd engine mounts. The system is not in contact with the body anywhere although that is what it sounds like.I would be very greatful for any ideas.
