rubbing noise

Hi all, when i turn left on a reasonable lock i get what sounds like a rubbing noise from the front drivers side wheel, when turning right there is no noise from passenger side wheel, it reminds you of brake pads scuffing but its not that, in a staight line the car is fine with no noise of any kind coming from drive train or wheels. tyre pressures ok, 30psi all round.
Any ideas anyone, 60,900mls, td4, yreg 2001, station wagon.
