hello all
I have a 3.9 disco 1996 it has a misfire at times i have changed all ignition parts except the hall effect sensor do these give problems as it misses on both gas and petrol. Any ideas please?

I haven't seen it mentioned on disco forums as giving issues, but that's not to say it doesn't although I would have thought such a thing would fail completely.
For your 96MY engine u would require STC2898 according to my parts book, if u decide to replace it.

hi thank you for reply. I could not see sensor part failing will have to look else were for problem

hi
yes sometimes it will not start .the misfire started on the drive to work ran fine till then. when it will not start i check for sparks and they are good at the king lead, leave it for a bit then its starts

Sound like the symptoms I had for a year till one day the 12v supply from the spider to the coil failed while I was on the outside motorway lane.
So when the engine fails to start check that there is a supply on the white wire at the coil, use a 5w bulb not a meter as that will show 12v, if u then find the bulb glow is very dim you have a faulty supply.
Make sure u carry a length of wire so u can provide a temporary 12v from the battery to the coil should it be needed. :(

thanks for that .as its a landrover i always carry tools and wire.
Have read post about by passing spider may well do it

That's up to u if you wish to pull the front of the dash apart.

You only have two circuits that are restricted when the engine is immobilised, starting inhibit and the ignition, it's a lot easer just to re provide the circuit that is faulty as I did with the coil circuit leaving the dash and spider untouched. :)
