Had a weird one last night, RRC 300tdi just lost power then cut out, it felt like I had run out of fuel.
Tried to re-start and it fired up straight away and drove home.
Anyone had anything similar? I am thinking possible bad fuel, air lock or pump, any help appreciated.

Diesels need two things air and fuel. Can't see air being the problem so must be fuel. Maybe look at the lift pump.

Thanks again Wammers had a bit of a brain fart, new lift pump on order.

If the lift pump fails the injection pump is capable of sucking fuel from the tank. But power will be down on normal, it also depends on the condition of the internal pressure pump in the injection pump, and the fail mode of the lift pump. The lift pump maintains a pressure between it and the injection pump. The internal pressure pump raises this initial pressure to internal injection pump working pressure as RPMs rise to adjust timing. If the internal pump is worn the action of having to suck fuel past a failed lift pump causing restricted flow is maybe at certain times to much to ask of it.
