Hi.
My p38 has lain for a few months with what i thought was battery drain issue however, new alternator and battery seems to have sorted the issue.took it for a run yesterday and have banging from rear wheel(s).rear wheel seems to be a bit jerky now mainl when turning???
Any ideas appreciated.

Banging from drivetrain in P38 can be VCU.

Odd, there is a similar recent post but in an L322, and it doesn't have a VCU:eek:

Wammers is the resident God re. P38, I'm just on clerical duties.
With it lying for a few months mi
Check VCU first. Easiest and if it is knackered you don't want to be driving it.

Check your hardy-spicers joint too, ideally off the ground.
Im pretty clueless with the acronysms.bought it from an alleged friend.one thing after another

First thing is wheel studs ,second is uj,s .Exhaust could have broke a mount ,,bushes on shocks can fail,Then theirs the diff ,but start with the easy stuff .
They're all getting old so they all have niggles.

VCU = viscous coupling unit, in this case within the drivetrain.

I prefer a 32mm socket on the hub-nut.

Thanks.
Will have it checked.really appreciate your input.will post outcome.

Unlikely to be VCU IF problem is definitely at rear. Jack the arse end up (chock front) and check wheels turn freely.

So having checked the diff and found little broken peices of steel it appears the rear diff is gone.would the car sitting a few months cause the diff to seize??
Could there be another cause and finally.will i do further damage to anything else if i drive it to a garage to have it replaced??
Thanks.

Sitting unused is unlikely to cause the diff to sieze unless there was no oil but water in there.Depends how far away the garage is.if there are bit of steel in there I guess the damage is done and its not going to be rebuilt.
