How do people correct the instruments when you fit range rover diffs and do you have the same problem when you fit a Salisbury rear axle? I'm unsure where the drive is taken from?? I would have thought I'd be from either an axle or gearbox and would be a mechanical drive rather than electrical but could be wrong. Had a search fir solutions but can't find anything.

series speedo is a cable drive from the gearbox, fitting rangie diffs will cause it to under read but fitting a Salisbury axle from a series will not effect it

So your saying I can kill two birds with one stone by fitting a salisbury axle? Humm just need me an axle then - hope someone reads my wanted add - any idea what the going rate is for one gman?

Think all speedo heads are adjustable to some extent
Have a look online for speedo calibration
I think the car is put on a rolling road and the head is set up against the rollers

I suspect that if you can find the speedo unit from a stage 1 v8 (series 3 v8) which has the higher ratio diffs, but someone said they have a salisbury on the back

so in other words the stage 1 should have a high ratio salisbury, if you can grab the speedo unit out of this it should be set to read correctly with the higher ratio diffs

I have not actually had a good look but you never know.

Yer can't fit a series salisbury at the back and a range rover diff at the front. Well you can if you want but it'll be interesting when you stick it in 4wd.

what about the stage 1 rear axle? they are the same ratio as the RR diff's, and someone mentioned it was a salisbury. they are also leaf sprung.

Oh right so i can't fit a salisbury then? Arse! Humm, maybe stock up on half shafts then or just learn to drive an old land rover..

Will a RR diff not fit the salisbury axle? I'm assuming the main difference in the axles is the amount of spines right, maybe a thicker shaft as well resulting in a much stronger axle all together.

How can i mod a salisbury onto a Series 3 that currently running a 3.5 V8 with RR diffs? If this is possible, how the hell do i correct the speedo so its not bouncing all over the place and reads more correct than it does at the moment. I've no idea how to calculate it all. More reading is required me thinks.

Do what I did
Fit a tom-tom
Speedo reading or even millage isnt part of the mot so not needed

Series landy speedos are pretty useless at the best of times. Before you start calculating what speedo drive you need for whatever diff ratio you might want to ask yourself if the speedo was even close to accurate in the first place. I just use the racket from the engine to guess at the speed I'm doing.

Haha, it dos make a right old racket as well, tbh I've no time to look at the speedo while I'm moving anyway as I'm too busy fighting with the steering to be able to check it and i wouldn't want to take my eyes off the road for one second in all honesty.

These all beasts need 100% concentration at all times and both hands on the wheel!!
