hi there,

my 300tdi disco rescently failed its MOT on "excessive corrosion" to the body work, but the car is stil mechanically sound as well as the chassis being fine.

I was wondering about trying to get a replacement shell to put on the chassis and was wondering if people have experience in doing this and if its a lot of work/hassle, or am i better off scrapping/ selling for spairs/repairs?

erm there were 8 failing points on the body work

* Near and offside rear seatbelt anchors
* Nearside front vehicle structure (which was under the wheel arch where the kind mot tester poked a hole)
*Near rear "excessive corrosion" within 30 cm
*offside front/rear vehicle structure
*near side door a post
etc etc

the guy said it was pretty rotten which is just lovely! hopefully all these bits make sense as thats just what was written on the mot form

can you weld? as its just a case of cutting the old rust out and letting new metal in, you can save money if you can make your own panels... if not YRM metal solutions do a nice range of parts ;)

i don't weld myself but i know welders and body guys, will try and have a look at the body to see if theres any good metal left.

thanks for the replies

that doesnt sound too bad...

On my old disco I welded, the floors (front and rear) rear inner arches and front inner arches, plus loads of other stuff...
