gcoo8154 thanks.

thinking of making some mounts like what you talked about but instead of welding to chassis wending to a piece channel on top of the chassis rail bolted to another piece of channel under the chassis rail. i think that would be safe.

ye would also work i just went for the quick option :D and im not removing the fooker in a hurry was a bastid to get in :D

shouldn't be to hard remove roof and lower cage in with the tractors loader :D

dose any one know if the gas pipe would be ok for the cage

no no removing the roof was easy and getting the cage in was ok ish bit of a load with two people but the worst bit was fitting my county roof lining in the rear man was that a pig to fit over the cage :p

when you say gas pipe as in mild steel ye? what wall thickness does it have?

home made cages? asking for trouble?

Pay the money, peace of mind. Just remember WHY you are installing a roll cage, if you have forgotten the clue is in the name  If on the otherhand you want to look cool I suggest some nice 4" tubular chrome

Malcolm does a good service and I trust my life in his work (I have to, its his cage!)

if you know what your doing then home made cages are perfectly ok at the end of the day if seen some of the welding on some bought cages and to say the least it look ruff and 9 times out of 10 if it looks ruff its ruff:rolleyes: but ye i agree on the other hand cus i paid 99 quid for mine:D

if you have to ask is clamping it ok then your not competant enough to build a cage, sorry, but you can make a home made cage IF you understand what you NEED to do to make it a safe cage.

Check out the blue book and have a look see do not deviate from what it says you Will need spreader plates welded to your chassis 3mm if not 6mm for some events. THese guys don't tell you to do it for a laugh the cage needs it for a reason. Welding box section to the chassis Sounds ok IF you have the correct spreader plates and correct rated Bolts that are indeed bolts and not anything else. Material used needs to be to spec! I have heared people tell me they only do slow events so no need for the Strengtheners then they zip up the motorway to the event. Clever!

A bad cage can injure you sevearly Or worse case kill you or your passengers!

Go with Griffdowg buy a real cage it won't be bling nor clamp to your chassis but it might save some body damage and possibly your life. Buy some chrome plated Bling Or buy some 22mm copper house rad pipe cos I reckon it will take the weight of the landy in a roll up to 10G! Not! LMFAO! This thread is pointless!

jai_landrover sorry if i have ****ed you off.

just thought could bolt it to the chassis (the protection & performance external cage for a 90 dose)
if that is not ok why have i seen some of there cages on trucks in winch competitions ?
if i have to weld to the chassis then i will do, will have to grind the galva off and paint it and wax oil it in side and out.
only asked about the gas pipe as some one said seamless tube is ok if its a certain thickness (and my mate has loads).
if this is not ok will be ordering CDS tube then when i find some where that sells it.

the landy is not doing serious comps just pay and play days, the odd tyro trial and novice winch trial.
