Hallooo there!

Can anyone help me with regards to non working reverse lights.

I've checked the bulbs and they are fine. Havent had time to check the fuse yet.

Is there anything else I can have a look at before I take it to an auto electrician?

Thanks all!!

I've got this problem, it's not an MOT faliure so I've not fixed it yet. However there's a thread that explains what the problem probably is, I'll try and find it for you although I'm sure someone will tell you too search!

There's a wire or summit similar that needs raising up it's apparantly on top of the gear box acesible by removing the centre console.

Cheers Teshu.
I need to do my MOT end of april and was worried this might fail me.
Thanks for the thread, I'll have a fiddle when I have time.

Read pot 2 :D

also make sure you get a geniune switch, the profile on the end of the pattern part is differtent so don't work as well :D

first of all get a peice of wine and put two male crimp connector red I think and then go under from passager side and u will see two wires connected to the switch by the bgearbox at the top full arm reach on yer back on the floor and pull the two connectors out and using this wire and bridge it together and then switch the intigtion on and and select reverse and if lights on then the switch is knackered if no lights summat else fuses wire breaks. etc

why do you need to select reverse gear seeing as you've just shorted the reverse switch ?

no silly me yes correct if the lights come on after brigding the wires then the switch is knackered if not then it is not the switch well spotted mate I read what I typed where was I on the moon!! hehe well done mate

plus all you need to do is to shove the tips of a pair of long nose pliers into the connector ends to short them - rather than making up a lead

I had the same problem with my 200TDi. After close examination we concluded the switch that was activated by the gearbox shaft was not there at all. The plate that attaches the switch to the box is not there either. The wires that run from the box back to the engine compartment were also fried by the exhaust manifold. I purchased a push button switch and some wire, a relay, a buzzer and a fog lamp. I connected the fog lamp, buzzer and existing reverse lights to the relay which is activated by my push-button switch. I remember to turn it off even in daylight because of the buzzer.http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/images/smilies/cool.gif

Hi there, had the same problem on my wife's Tdi 200 Disco and I fixed it last week!!!!

It's an easy job to do, but if I may advise you, get the reverse light switch bought and in stock before you do!!

I didn't and had to wait a week for it to be posted to me. The part you need is PRC 2911.

To do the job you need to follow this link which gives a really great step by step guide to doing this work. If you have the part in stock it will only take 1 hour to do and you'll end up feeling really proud that YOU fixed it, not some local auto-electrician !!

Here's the link, scroll down and you'll see loads of pictures:

Part number or name needed

It's easy, honestly, I put off doing this for ages because of a lack of confidence, when I came to do the job, it was easy-peasy !!
