Hi all,

Just a quick hello as this is my first post.

I've recently bought a reverse camera for my Td5 which was fitted today so I can try to offer some advice if it's required to the fitting of it.

I chose the wired (hard wired) version as I understand the wireless / bluetooth sometimes give interference.

From rear to front I decided to fit the camera above the 3rd brake light - within the boot space as it will stay dry, secure and with the stroke of the rear wiper.

I connected the power source for camera to the right hand brake light (negative and #4 (green / brown as live)). I used scotch connectors for this.

From here the cable came through behind the light fitting to the small (vent like) cubby hole right hand just inside of rear door. The power and video cable were passed through inside of door and through door card to 3rd brake light through the flexible hosing.

The video lead has been concealed under the carpet and seats under centre console and out under gaiter of hi / lo gear stick.

The supply for the monitor was taken from cigarette lighter supply which required removal of centre console. You will find there are 3 connections, one red lead at the top and the other two connected together, one green and one black. The central connection to cigarette lighter is positive (mine had a green wire and black - or casing connection is negative). I popped these out of the terminal holders and soldered my connections.

This sorted the monitor. This was then fitted infront of the hi / lo gear stick.

Then last thing to do, connect video leads start ignition, stick in reverse and jobs a goodun! Hope this helps someone!

Im just going to give you a heads up me buddy, there is a strange tradition on here, and you should post in the introductions forum first, let yourself be known!

On another note, if you connected the power source for the camera to the brake light, how does it come on in reverse? Did you mean to say you connected it to the reverse circuit?

Hi there, apologies for that!

Yeah using reverse light circuit (jumped from connector block to camera feed).

apart from your failing to say Hi in the noobys section first
(its a landyzone thing)
I too was looking at a reverse camera for parking, as not all the town disabled/blue badge spaces we have are made just for a landy with big tow bars.
as there so cheap, and my disco is bereft of lots of electrickery stuff,
fitting a cam is next on my list
(an ever growing list it seems)

They just don't take into account that bluebadge holders could drive big vehicles. I'm sure they think we all potter around in Nissan bloody Micra's!

I will try take some decent pics over weekend of view from camera and any wiring that is visible.

Again, apologies for not saying hello in hello forum.

Here is a pic from inside td5 of monitor showing what the camera captures (camera is fitted internally to 3rd brake light)

Ill try to get some decent photos over the weekend

To be honest I only finished fitting it yesterday so havnt had much time to test it all out. I've seen other people fitting the camera behind their tow bar (ball) or to bumper so its easier to gauge the distance behind.

The camera is adjustable so you can tilt it or fix it in postition then i suppose its just the case of getting used to the extra pair of eyes.

I got it off ebay mate.

Theres loads of differrent types (wired / wireless) then however many LED's you want. i went for 18 and wired system.

I know you can pay quite a bit for these, so i went for a cheapish one as it was just to see what difference it made, think in total it was about £30 all in

Why anyone would want a reversing camera on a car is beyond me

friend of mine just bought a Subaru Forester  with a reversing camera to "help" hitching his caravan on his own

The screen is soo small and resolution so **** I doubt he'll ever find it useful :D :D :D

Also must point out said friend has a caravan mover  :D :D :D

Yes I have taken it out of him mercilessly ;)

Seen this thread, and thought to myself I am sure I got a reverse cam with my stereo when I ordered it from china land a couple of years ago, so dug out the box and there it was. Mine wires up a little different to the op's
My cam requires a constant 12v feed or you could switch it and then there is a separate reverse 12v feed that has to go to the back of the stereo, I presume it's like this as it flips the screen out when in reverse.
Any way just hooked up and took a few pictures as I wanted to know how good the night vision is, as I will be putting it on my new truck ( night vision is brill )
Here is the pictures :)

Those systems look mint to be fair I couldn't be without mine now it's fitted. And_weidershen_pet you have done a cracking job there. Where did you get the raised dash din / dash unit from?

I've tried to conceal the screen as best I can incase a tea leaf thinks it's a sat nav.

I can see why people are a bit judgemental about retro fitting reverse cameras. In my opinion it it makes life easier fit it. End of the day it's not them driving it round.
