Hi, I also have Osram night breaker unlimited in the disco something like 150%, like all the other bulbs on sale to give a brighter light the bulb is filled with a small amount of Xenon gas, of course there’s still the old school Halogen gas bulb that used a higher wattage i.e 100watt

U may have seen the HID headlights resetting base line themselves for a couple of seconds after they are first switch on.

Many thks , indeed made a difference fitting the osrams

no haven’t seen that on HID, heard about when first turned on they can flicker but that’s supposed to be when the CCF files haven’t been changed from halogen to HID

Dread to think what some of new car headlight bulbs cost

alas think I’m getting confused , didn't realise the headlights themselves were self levelling, assumed the air suspension would automatically self level the headlights
They don't. The self leveling EAS takes care of the level, as per the legislation. ;)
because the coil sprung D3 has a manual headlight adjustment dial where the air suspension one doesn’t
That's correct, as the suspension doesn't self level.
know with xenons I need to add headlight washers
Xenon incandescent (H7 bulbs for instance) and Xenon High Intensity Discharge (HID) are completely different technologies, and generally not cross compatible, without the associated lamp assemblies.

many thks , nothing like me getting confused , lol

so indeed with air suspension that takes care of the headlight levelling not the headlight

To be honest as I’ve currently got halogen I was going to replace the entire headlight with a xenon

certainly won’t get involved with the cornering headlights ,

many thks for clearing that up

It does indeed, as per the regulations. ;)
To be honest as I’ve currently got halogen I was going to replace the entire headlight with a xenon
That's the best way.

I fitted them to my D3 halogen headlights, which wasn't that difficult IIRC.
many thks for clearing that up
No problem Gary. ;)

My XE Jag has HiD there’s no self levelling air bags on that so as below as the same as the car before it.:)
Due to the high intensity of xenon headlights, they can dazzle other drivers. Car manufacturers have resolved this by using self-levelling systems to prevent the beam from pointing too high. Some cars automatically adjust their lights to prevent dazzling oncoming traffic. In many cars with xenon headlights, you may notice the lights “dancing” about when you turn on the ignition – this is a calibration pattern to ensure the lights are positioned correctly.

Cut & pasted copy of the road traffic act 2010 so the information may have been superseded by now.

“once fitted to the vehicle it must have headlamp cleaning and self-levelling (which can be for the headlamp or can be in the vehicle suspension - some expensive estate cars have “self-levelling suspension” and that is adequate). Also the dipped beam must stay on with the main beam“
