Hello Everyone,

This is my first post on this forum..

I recently brought a 98 freelander and had to do some work on it, but minor things. When I was looking for spares I noticed that the centre tunnel console on the 2001 freelander had a cubby box and the switches for the electric windows on it.

So I was wondering whether it would be possible to remove the old useless flat one that I have and put in the 2001 one instead? How hard would it be to extend the wiring for the switches (I'm pretty good with a pair of crimpers)?

:welcome: to LZ :D............ the pi** takin only lasts for a little while.... then the guys will give you sound advice> :D

not sure if your on about the same thing as i am but i've been wondering how to put a cubbyhole armrest thingy in my 2000 freebie. The type that sits above the handbrake. Wonder if thats possible?

Yep, that's what I want to do, I'm thinking the 2001 part is the same width and length, but only the height as the difference.. The fittings should be the same (screw holes, etc.)

I guess if nobody knows I'll have to spend some money, get the part and try it..

firstly, welcome to the forum and the world of owning a land rover. I should like to give you one small piece of advice.

Never ever ever ever, use those two words in the same post, 'cos the tratter boys will be on us like a shot ! It is hard enough being labelled as hairdressers anyway, and then you go and say that !

All jokes, aside, welcome to the forum, thick skin and all that. Been here over two years myself, and it's a pretty good forum. the answers are all here, just have to filter out the abuse.

Good Luck.

I've already done this and it works well. You can buy 'blanks' (LXYB100000LNF) £1.97 each, from Land Rover for the holes left by redundant swithes. I moved the swithes for the front windows and the central locking to the centre console, and then moved the rear window swith nearer to the drivers side. NOTE - the rear window swithes will not fit the front window wiring plug.
I extended the electrics by cutting the plugs off (but leave enough to attach to) and adding enough wire between to do the job (of the correct thickness wire). Only problem I had was the handbrake cables - make sure that when you get the console that the rear fitting is included.
Remove the one fitted to your Freelander and seperate the base plate from the two round fittings that the handbrake cable pass through and re-use this when you secure the base plate from the console using the same bolt holes (you may have to adjust the brake cable - but shouldn't be much).
Of course if you are getting the console for yourself you could always get the wiring loom at the same time (remember to have enough cable to reach the front of yours).

Hope this helps everyone :welcome2:

Well they need a nice flat surface to rest their crimpers on......snigger:welcome2:

You are right, I usually put a nice pink basket on it so that I can put my crimpers away (if that are the things one uses to wrap his hair around to make it look curly ?) and in the dashboard I've installed a nice wooden shelf so that I can put my hairlacquer and shampoo's etc.. as on the normal dash it didn't stay solid enough. Have made a picture of my nice basket with the woofie in it, he doesn't mind the cimpers you know, he's so cute ......):D:D:D:D
