Hi All

Can anyone tell me please how to replace the high pressure fuel pump in the front engine bay of a 2000 TD4. I have removed the small philips screw from the housing and un hooked the casing from the side. I'm now looking at the fuel hoses and thinking Umm , Does this need specialist tools etc.
If anyone can help I would appreciate it.. I have search the past forum's.. Lots of talk about fuel pumps but couldn't see any specific removal instructions.

Thanks

Mark.

Hi All Again

I have just managed to remove the pump with no problem at all..

Looking at the top connection to the filter , it is just a push fit. I used two screw drivers to squeeze the plastic clips in and prised the connector off.
The bottom connection to the multi way connection block was a twist and pull job.

Can't believe it was so simple.. Off to the parts shop now !

Thanks

Mark:)

its not called a high pressure fuel pump. . . .its the 2nd low pressure lift pump. . .the hp one delivers fuel to the common rail un to the injectors . . .but dunt worry least yer doin the write thing, just a bit complicated fer earthlings to get the correct terminology. . . .;)

Thanks Ming

Nice to know someone knows what they are doing !!

I have fitted the new pump .. 10 Minute job again.. Just need to replace the air flow meter now!!!!!!!!! Was told by the garage that the engine warning light that came on at the same time the fuel pump died is the cause of the warning light according to the diagnostics computer. Oh well another 100 quid. Better than the 825 quoted to fix the car in the first place though!

Thanks again for your help non earthling

Regards

Mark

JIST HOLD ON ER TICK. . . .if the fuel pump twas fooked ,then this could well kick up yer engine warning [low fuel pressure primary] might need resetting , but I'll bets that's wot it is, run it fer a while. . . .:)

Hi ming

Hi Mark,

I think I need to replace the fuel pump in my TD4, just replaced the fuel filter today, but still not 100%.
Can remove the unit from bracket ok, was just wondering how you disconnected and refitted the fuel line at the bottom of the pump. The top connections will be no problem.

Thanks

Sorry .. I hadn't noticed your request for info..
The bottom fuel line disconnects by pushing in and twisting the connector then pulling it out.

I assume by now you have completed your repair.. Sorry again!

Have you crossed a post? I'm not familiar with the petrol 1.8 and so am not qualified to answer.. I will look in past posts if you get stuck.. Let me know!

Sorry to drag this one up again, But I am still having problems..

I have resolved the fuel pump and replaced the MAF sensor but still the fault light shows on the dash.. The car drives fine. I took it to the local mechanic but the carsoft diagnostic system returned 1612 code and the book says unknown error.

So off to the main dealer and was told the error log shows problems with the turbo charger.. They said the variable fins inside were not being adjusted and needed further investigation. (2 hours later and £50 )

I was quoted £250 parts,500 for labour + Mr browns bit! so I don't believe the whole turbo needs changing.

My question is :- what do you reckon they are talking about and is it a big job to remove the turbo assembly.

All help is appreciated

Regards

Mark

Disclaimer - I know nothing about Testbook.

The faults will continue to show after you have changed the bits and pieces. They need to be cancelled by the dealer.

I reckon before you start investigating and delaing with any "new" faults, the system ought to be reset and then you can see if there are actually any noticable problems.

Does that sound sensible?

first things first , the diagnostic computer cannot tell if the variable vanes ofthe turbo are open or closed , what it can tell is if the signal is being sent to the solenoid which actuates it , or the sensor with tells it to actuate is fooked ,

dont be fooled by the garage techs, some are only parts fitters and only interested in extracting your money.

they will replace every part until they cure the problem and charge you for the pleasure

it sounds like your td4 is now running sweet, just your em light is still on,
LR will most probably want £100 quid just to reset it

AGAIN. . .John is correct.yer motor is running fine now but eml is still flashing ,so it needs fault code reset , go to rover rons web site and look for the fault code reset ,its two pins on the diagnostic socket lhs in cab , you have to link two pins out for 10 secs [cannot remember the pin numbers] so look it up :)
