Same old problem my series 2 bulkhead is held together by spiders webs and paint, I have read that Simmonites do a Defender bulkhead that with "a little alteration " will fit a series, has anybody done one of these, is it a royal pain or fairly straight forward, or is it still better to rebuild providing you can find something to weld to as a starting point.
I see a few companies do repair sections but who is the best for quality and range of panels.
And does anybody know of somebody who will shot blast my old bulkhead in the Devon area.

Lots of question I know but this is my first Landy rebuild and I would like to get it right first time
 
Just about to put a 110 bulkhead in mine which has got to be fairly similar. Footwells and the transmission tunnel area looks like a different shape, plus putting it in a Series 2 means you'll have to think about how the windscreen is going to fold down (it won't have the plates on the side that support the hinges). You might want to put a Series 3 windcreen in for ease. Series 2 dash panel completely different too, it won't have the mountings for your instruments.

theres usually one or two on ebay - of varying quality.
Someone in Andover apparently refurbs and galvanises them.
 
It sounds like lots of work to get it to fit and keep the series 2 fitments,I think I will have to get mine repaired, I have 2 to chose from so its a case of strip them both down and see which can be saved, but thanks for the info and good luck with your rebuild
 
Did I say £500 I meant £800 and reserve still not met the money grabbing spud faced ****ers, I know we all have to earn a crust but some people just take the ****, do i sound bitter and twisted well **** um I would rather learn to weld and do it myself than pay over the odds
 
haha that must have a 1k reserve. Dipping is like £100, and you just need a MIG and some patch panels for the rest.

He's selling lightweight stuff as well, way overpriced and looks patchy to say the least..
 
There are people out there that do replacement bulkheads and footwells for SII, the footwells are the original type with the ribs in them, and the bulkhead is made to order, and galvanised as well, but comes at a cost, 1 long wait (he don't like you ringing him and asking when its going to be finnished) and 2 the price (but you get what you pay for in this case) around £800 but it will last your lifetime and someone else's too, and is as accurate as you can get an early SII or SIIa as possible, the footwells (he makes them all even the lightweight) come to around £40 ish (off the top of my head) but again very good quality and you wont be disappointed, they come with the sides on or with out them, that's up to you how you order them
 
No worries the info was asked for and appreciated, Its time to start collecting repair panels.
I have found a welder/mechanic that mostly works on series stuff close to me so will take mine to him and see how it turns out, he recons he has a jig for the bulkheads so it sounds promising, will let you know how it turns out
 
A few picks for you, he sells these on ebay too, his ebay shop, the stuff is cheaper than i quoted you, honestly you wont be disappointed in the quality of the stuff he sells

I just have to say he sent me these to look at for free, there his prototype ones, so he has much improved on them since and as far as i can see the new ones are near as perfect as you'll get, even for rivet counters

as you can see from my other thread, im well on way with my series 2 restoration, the next thing after i'v stripped an cleaned & polished every inch of the engine and gear box, ready to go together later. i will be restoring the bulkhead, using panells and patches from paddocks, and steel plate, mig welded, once shotblasted will have it galvanised.
if the work is done your self, not including labour costs, a bulkhead restoration can easily be done for £150 ish
 
I am now the proud (but slightly daunted) owner of a series ll Landy! There are a number of bodywork issues to tackle but the most pressing is the front bulkhead (or in places, lack of it!!)
Can anyone recommend where I can get a reasonable replacement bulkhead for good price?
 
keep your eyes on ebay, I picked up a good solid used one for around £110.

failing that there are people like andover landrover that refurb and galv them but you are looking at the best part of a grand.

there is another chap on ebay erfurbs them for around £800 but he is up in the midlands.

depending where the rot is and whether you can weld there are a lot of repair panels available fairly cheaply but if you can't weld then its not really an option

the thread you have revived is about 5 years old btw :D
