I did a search but couldn't find what I'm looking for...

I've just replaced the water pump on my diesel p38 and now have one hot hose (hose on the right as you look at the engine) and one cooler hose (hose with thermostat) this has only just started to happen. Could my stat of failed coincidentally? Or is it a big ass air lock? Rad is hot on the right (looking at the engine) and gets cooler to the left.

Thanks guys

Silted rad....air lock....lack of radiator baffle (or the water pump flow - now restored - has knocked it over!)....failed stat....

First thing is to ensure there is no air lock....then check for baffle.....then check stat.

As attached...hot in on the right and cold(er) out the left.....

OK guys maybe I'm getting worried about nothing. Took it for a drive and temp seemed to stay bang on in the middle so maybe its just me. Like I said the rad is hot and I'm getting good heat in the cabin so maybe everything's fine.

Hot coolant enters the rad from the head at right hand side. (Looking from front). Goes down the right side of the rad and up the left side and should re-enter the engine cooler than it went in. If it doesn't you have problems.

Thanks Wammers I get it. Took it for another spin this morning and rad cooler the further to the left you move your hand. left hand hose (as you look at the engine was warmer today so maybe all is well afterall..?

Welcome to P38 ownership where Captain Paranoia is a free extra. I sometimes stare at it as the missus drives off and wonder if the wheels are going round correctly.
