Hi all,

Dont know why but the other night driving home, the alternator on the td4 2001 fried! big time! anyone have any ideas what may have caused this?

Anyhow, now need a new one, the existing is a Valeo 115amp (Rover R3) about £160 to replace! but! a 150 amp Valeo is priced at £135!

Question is any problems if I fit the 150amp item? connector will need changed from rectangle to oval, anything else?

cheers

Tom

A larger alternator will simply output more current on demand and shouldn't give you any problems, but watch how you wire your new plug as some alternators are completely different in this respect. I would also check all of your fuses to see if anything blew. Have you got any unusually heavy current accessories that may have caused the fry up?

Hi,

I don't have anything out of the ordinary fitted to the car, as far as I can tell it just fried and died! fuses all seem to be in order............ a mystery.

Someone suggested that the bigger alt maybe has a different pully? ie a 6 groove instead of a 5? any ideas on this?

regards

Tom

If it has a different pulley then you can just swap it for your existing one - they are keyed onto the shaft and you might need a puller to shift it. Chances are it will be the same though.
