Repairing/replacing seat heating elements

Has anyone here actually tried to repair or replace the heated seat pad on the front seats?
I have read it can be done (on RR.net), but can be awkward because of the hog rings.
Also where can i get hold of the gizmo that makes them heat up a bit "hotter" than standard?

Blimey, you are being busy with your Rangey! I've just got a long list of faults, but you actually seem to be just ploughing through them! You realise it's like painting the forth bridge though...

I've been after one (well, two actually) of those gizmos too. I think it's just an uprated thermostat, but although I've heard of it a few times, no-one seems to know (or isn't saying) where to get one from!

Most of the daunting sounding tasks are actually fairly straight forward, but I find if you research, plan and have the correct tools it can actually be quite satisfying. I have read stuff like " leave it for the next owner", but I am that next owner so I guess I have to at least try. Parts are not that ridiculously priced if you search hard.

I try and think of if as if i try the next task (and it works) and I save the labour costs then that labour cost should cover the cost of my next part... and so on....

I don't really have a long list of things to do - it was just the main 2, EAS fault and Fuel pump which were a pita to deal with as a daily driver.
Also when the suns out it does make you want to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty!

I am fairly sure that Gavbriggs has replaced his elements. Do a search on the forum or send him a PM

I've replaced my seat heaters by following what is on RR.net. You are quite right the hog rings are the only issues I faced.
If I did it again I'd also get a new seat cushion for the drivers seat.
After doing it I was given the following tip by a RR specialist and that was use cable ties instead of hog rings when reassembling. Obviously I've not done this myself but it would have been much simpler.

Now I am wondering what type of wire I need to repair the break, or maybe replace the wire entirely as the break could happen again anywhere...
I also want to beef up the seat bolster up a bit- again not sure what to use....

The seat pads are actually in two halves and it's usually the connecting bits between these halves that break. I haven't repaired mine on the one I have at the moment but I did do them on my old one. I found the hog rings a pain but not impossible but I don't think it ever worked as well as it should have done. I seem to remember something about the original being glued to the underside of the leather or to the foam. Can't remember which as it was a few years ago and the senior moments are becoming more continuous as time goes on.
I think the uprated thermostat can be bought from Maplins / RS / Farnell / CPC. When you get yours out, see if you can find it in the online catalogues and see if they do one with a different temperature range. They're only the size of a button.
