Repairing a green Lane

There's a green lane near me that has a bom hole in it. am I okay to repair the road or do I need someone permission. I'm thinking of putting loads of hard-core down there as I'm taking a load of plaster off the walls at my house at the moment

I think you will find the council call that 'fly tipping'

Ow. I don't no it it is owns by the Council or it's a private road

All the more reason not to go tipping your rubbish in it then .....

Get in touch with your local rights of way officer OR GLASS rep and let them know of the damage ...repairing damaged lanes is a great sentiment BUT
A. it needs to be done properly
B. it tends to be fraught with red tape

Sure why of ending up in court

Seems like too much hassle why do you make things so difficult

I didn't .....
However repairing a green lane/unsurfaced byway is a little more involved than dumping a load of **** that you want rid of on it .
Tipping hardcore/old plaster can be something of an enviromental mess and look visually **** .

IF the local council highways department are interested in repairing it then they will do it properly (This is why so often they have no budget for it ) a work party MAY be possible IF GLASS get involved and coordinate the work with the necessary insurance/RAMS/etc in place .

There's some pot holes around here that an old sofa and busted fridge would fit in nicely....

Can i ask you,do you think dumping a load of old plaster into the hole,will last more than a few hours,it needs sorting correctly,not with old crumbling plaster.

That was one of the reasons I was asking I didn't want to do something that wasn't right. I'm electrician not a groundsman but shelved the idea now. Too mutch red tape.

Not having a go at you,but think about it,plaster is soft and crumbly,it won't last a day in reality,let the council etc do it correctly.

It appears there's a need for the red tape so it's not all bad

If I tell the Council they'll probably just close the lane as that a cheaper option

the only way to repair that is to dig it out to remove the pan and so in future it drains,dumping stuff in it will just enlarge it

Yes it does,soft as can be.

I'd also wonder about the 'bombhole' itself. Checking the picture it looks off-piste a tad, though it might be arguable how wide the lane is .. Frankly I'd keep well away from trying to repair it without council, Landowner, Highways authorities consent and help.

If you don't mind, whereabouts is it? Map reference preferably .... or a google map pointer .... I'll have a check and mention it to the local Glass rep. We can often get work parties up but looking at it, it's more likely that a work party without proper equipment would only worsen the situation.

Its illegal to dump plasterboard in Land Fill ! After the large fine for fly tipping upto £25000 you will then be billed for the soil to have the Sulphates removed ! More than likely a lot more than the fine.
