Repair rear door handle assembly rather than replace

My disco 3 has developed the apparently common problem of the rear door not opening. I have tried the 'pressing both unlock and lock buttons test' and the door opens. From that I think the rear door handle is no longer working.
After looking up the price, which seems to be best on ebay, at £75, I would rather repair it. I imagine there must be a microswitch in it which may be the problem.

Has anyone attempted a repair rather than replace the whole assembly?

If no one already has the answer, I am going to take it off and have a go, but I thought I'd check first.

A switch is going to be a lot cheaper that replacing the whole assembly.
