Hi there

I'm currently renewing my breaks and the disk all has gone fine until finishing up to fit the pads, my drivers side rear calipers will not go in far enough to fit the final pad, I've even broke 2 sets of molegrips trying to get it in, what I'm asking is, do I need to change the caliper or can I renew the piston?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Regards

Wappy

youd be better off with new calipers fit them in pairs about £30 each/for the mean time put old pad in one side to support disc and use long bar to force piston back ,you could rewn piston but depends on how bad cailper corrosion wise ,

If the pistons are badly corroded the rust can damage the seals so that they pass fluid under braking pressure. You can get caliper repair kits with new pistons and new seals quite cheaply. But you may be better with new calipers as james has said.

for 30 would replace them not worth muking around with seal kits as you will have to spend some tedias time cleaning the pistons and then trying to get it all back working with out any leaks, and if it leaks on your wills for some time you will end up will corrosion as you probably know

Thanks guys, I'm collecting some on Monday they only set me back 30 so thanks for that, and she'll be back on the road Tuesday.

Thanks for all the help guys its appreciated

Nah, but thanks for the thought, we ended up getting a Sealey one, a great help on the Discos dual-lines and many bleed nips.

Yeah, mine is an "easy bleed"-I use a wheel barrow wheel for the pressure-makes it nice and easy on your own
