Freelander 1 Removing Tailgate Window

I know the tailgate regulator replacement has been covered a lot and there are youtube videos to watch too. I've read all these and watched the videos but none of them cover what I need.

The regulator cable in my tailgate has snapped with the window in the fully closed position and it will not move at all. How do you get the glass down enough to access the clips that hold the glass to the rails so that I can remove the glass? Just pushing down on the glass does nothing. I've loosened all the nuts and bolts that hold the rails and motor in but this hasn't helped.

Any pointers appreciated.

OK, forget that. Tried cutting what cables were left connected (not electrical, obviously) and the window dropped down easily.
