despite not having sunroofs, I still appear to have a leak and the only way to sort it out is to remove the headlining. My series 1 disco was easy. I have searched online and can find very little about removing a disco 2 headlining. Can anyone help?

Thanks for this link. However it is for a Disco 1. Is it the same process? If so, no problem. I thought there were some differences.

copied from the guide I used to do mine:
I would recommend removing the:
1) Visors & Visor Clips
2) All grab Handles
3) Front Plastic Console, once all the Philips screwsare out and the console is dropped then and only then remove the wire for the front dome light, don't remove the clear plastic coverfrom the front much to much work, remove the wires only from the back.
4) Remove the front "A" Post
5) Open front and back doors, remove rubber seal from around the "B" Post, unclip the "B" Post Clips that hold the "B" Post coverto the Pillar. You can only remove the "B" Post Coverby using this method.
6) If you have a Rear Seat Beltin the cargo area you will need to remove it (17mm) to feed it through the SideWindow TrimPanels
7) Remove the Plastic Rear Coverthat are around the rear side windows, their are about they are held in with about 7 plastic push clips.
8) Remove rear dome lightclosest to the rear 5th door
9) remove the felt trim around the opening of the sunroofs both front and back
10) Remove the Rear Sunroof Switchlocated within the plastic console, behind it you will find a Phillips headscrewthat holds the plastic console to the Roof of the Vehicle, once this screw has been removed then detach the wire harness for the rear AC switch, Dome lightetc.
11) Now your ready to remove the Headliner Boardout the rear door 5th door.
12) Remember to Fold down both the rear seats before removing the board.

It was one I followed when doing mine and had no problems. Reasonably easy job but moving the headlining about can be awkward due to the size of it. I wore those thin plastic gloves and changed then regularly to help reduce the chance of getting grubby paw prints on it.
When taking it out and putting back in I found it easier to drop the rear seat backs down and move the front seats as far forward as they would go and drop the seat backs. Just gives a bit more room to drop one side of the headlining down and pull it out the back diagonally as it is wider than the door aperture.
