I found the spare remote for my 2005 Defender, it didn't work so l changed the battery and after that it was fine.

Right, l thought, l'll change the battery on the main remote that l've been using.

l changed the battery and now that remote won't work, although the spare is fine having changed the battery in it.

So what's happened to my main remote and is there some sort of reset needed?

When l put a new battery in the spare remote it took a few presses on the unlock button and then the Defender recognised it.

The procedure will be in the handbook. For the Tdci, the fob battery has to be replaced while you are in the vehicle and near the thing it communicates with. Then the re-synchronise is done by pressing the lock button several times from outside the vehicle. Must be similar procedure for the TD5 I would have thought.
