Must have a mot to be able to transfer .

The 'other vehicle' must either be taxed or SORN, with no break between the tax and the SORN.

ive heard of some dodgy characters sticking the plate on a legit motor ... getting an mot and transferring plate...... clearly illegal ..... hmmmmm

cheers steve

Im about 99% sure If you can get the green slip from the v5 you can go into DVDs, register the car in your name, sorn it and transfer the plate off it all in 1 visit. Then scrap the vehicle.

no you can't there will be a break in tax / sorn and no good..... needs an mot or one that expired less than 6 months ago....

cheers steve

There will be a break in tax but by going in as a new keeper the tax is the responsibility of the last keeper. So as long as he goes in registers it in his name and sorns it he should be able to get the plate off.

I know a few people who have forgotten to tax cars so instead of paying the back tax they've just swapped it into their brothers name. Then it can be taxed without owing anything.
