Right my viscous fan has decided it doesn't want to kick in when hot but will still spin freely (stops with rolled up porn mag even when hot)so I've just fitted an electric fan ,problem is I'm short on correct tools so have not been able to remove viscous fan .my question is will leaving it on be detrimental to electric fan ?

A viscous fan is supposed to be freewheeling and only turns due to the moving fluid in the coupling....at least mine was. IE you can stop it at any time with something that can take the initial shock of the blade hit. It's main downside is that its cooling the radiator when you want it to get to operating temp. The electric fan only kicks in when the thermostat switched it on.

So if you want to stop the viscous fan from cooling, cut off the blades ;)

The viscous fan is supposed to get stiffer as it gets hotter! When its hot you shouldn't be able to stop it with your porn mag, when its cold you should!

Fan fitted and all electrics working ,it's helped keep the needle down a fraction but not a great amount ,starting to make me think the temp sensor maybe on it's way out .
