We have a Defender 110 CSW, 1988 model. It's a nice beast to own, but we are getting one problem.

My wife is having trouble coping with the clutch, due to arthritis in her knees. Is there any way of altering the clutch system to reduce the pressure required to depress the clutch pedal? Changing the master cylinder for a bigger one maybe?

I think you will need to get a master cylinder with a smaller diameter, but longer travel. or a larger diameter slave cylinder.

you can buy a system wot will operate your clutch for you. i can give yer more info if you PM me

A chauffeur?

Seriously, has anyone tried replacing either slave or master cylinders to do this?

If I replaced the master with a smaller diameter/longer travel one, wouldn't I also need to replace or alter the clutch pedal/cylinder arm?

that does seem to be the rolls royce of them though, shirly there's a cheaper one. Failing that how much does an autobox set you back? Handy wi'a spanner?

I've heard of something called an assister spring (or am I going mad). I tried loads of Landees before I got mine as I have dodgy knees, too much cycling or something like that. Anyway someone told me that some Landees have assister spring on the clutch pedal which helps a bit.
