Hello my clutch master cylinder died recently, managed to get a new one fitted along with the slave, but I can't seem to get a proper seal. When the pedal is depressed I get drips from the flexi pipe where it goes into the slave cylinder, or *maybe* the bleed nipple but its almost impossible to tell. Does anyone have any suggestions for getting a better seal or something i might be doing wrong?

I had the slave off today to compare it to the old one, seems identical, everything screws in the same amount of turns and feels correct. Put a tiny bit of red rubber grease in the threads to see if it would help seal, but no dice. I'm almost tempted to put the old slave back on, but I've been told it wont last long as usually one goes followed shortly by the other. I replaced them both about 6-7 years ago and don't remember having this kind of trouble then.

It hold well enough to get to the shops and back, but drips out quite readily when pedal fully depressed. It also drips enough overnight when just sat to half-empty the master cylinder.

Are the threads good on the flexi pipe?

Are the threads good on the flexi pipe?
they appear fine, and screwed into both the old and new slave perfectly fine from what I can tell.

If I can find the rubber from the old slave, I'll refit that and see if it leaks or not. Perhaps for the sake of £10 I should also buy a new flexi pipe so that I can test/rule that out?

Hmm well, i bought a new flexi pipe but haven't been able to free the upper connection and dont want to risk breaking the copper line, so I'm just gonna blast it with cleaner every few days to try and get it clean and loosen it up.

meanwhile, I tested the old slaves nipple, still a leak so not the nipple. Fitted old slave, no leak. So clearly the issue is with the new slave but now I've left it too long I think to get a refund or anything.

Out of desperation, I've put a single wrap of PTFE tape around the upper threads of the flexi pipe where it screws into the slave cylinder and it appears to have stopped the leak. I think this is a bodge and I don't really trust it long term, but its enough that I can risk going to the shops and back till I can fix it properly (I'm currently replacing a rear axle on my daily driver peugeot 306, so need a vehicle for now).

Clearly then it seems the problem is with the threads on the new slave. Only thing I can think of is buying another and see if that one seals properly.
