Is it a very very bad idea for me to run engine flush through my 116k mileage td5 before my oil and filter change, reason is i have a tapping sound and thought to rule out a sticky lifter, shove this stuff in? A few friends said dont do it, the engines too old....

Thanks...

I personally wouldn't bother with it, i dont believe it does 'real' use. I would just let the oil get nice and hot and then drain it, let it drain for aslong as possible before refitting sump plug.

I think it's supposed to be 0w 30, personally I use 5w 30 from wilkinsons.semi synth.never had no probs but I do change after 6-7 k religiously.Cheap aswell..Don't forget your rotor filter aswell. And do as Ian says get it nice n hot before draining..Ps mines just passed 128k.

SAE 30 is the grade of oil, if it's 0w, 5w or 15w etc that only means the the oil has been modified to give the same lubrication as a 30 grade oil would when starting an engine at lower ambient temperatures applicable to the (w) grade.

ok so thats the oil sorted, anyone have any problems with the britpart service kit? the pics of oil filters from the service kit and landrover single buy ones look the same part.. i know britpart is meant to be ****e but as far as the service kit go's its in my price range.. what ya reckon... it has the rotory filter the twist in filter, air filter etc...

Thanks much for advice

It's a personal thing, and budget does play a part, but I never use non-genuine filters where liquids are concerned. Remember that your rotor filter spins at 15000 rpm. Would you trust Britpart with such a critical component? Maybe, but I won't risk it.

I may consider one of their air filters, but I have a K&N anyway.

There seems to be no middle ground with Britpart in that the quality is either great or terrible. My only 2 Britpart purchases are a radiator (which seems spot on) and a cellular steering damper (time will tell)

Not really

A 0w oil will flow at lower temps than a 5w oil but that also means it is thinner at normal start up temps (say between 5 and 20 degrees) I would want something a bit thicker in there on first start up myself :)

0w oild are only really required in artic conditions so unless you live in the scottish highlands I wouldnt go any lower than a 5w oil.

Ho yes, really it's a fact.

I always run on 10w40 thats ok down to an ambient temperatures of around -10c.
I did use Mobil 1 once thats 0w40 and that was a wast of money even though I got it at a good price.

The coldest it got in my area in the daytime last December/January was -4c but only twice although it was reported the temps did reach a low -8c in some places :)

I have never used them so cant coment for quality. Ive just serviced mine using coopers filters, very good quality and well made.
