zinc rich high 90's is what you want on bare steel as it gives galvanic protection, like galv.

Any particular suggestions for good ones? Just about to paint some industrial steels to repair one of my farm sheds. Corroless is pretty expensive, and I want to save it for vehicle restoration.

not really, you want 90%+ in the dry film if you can.

all real zinc rich will cost a fair amount.

for a farm shed. normal zinc phosphate and topcoat would probably do.

teamac, jotun, etc (as above manor are a good name too) all do some zinc rich systems for industrial apps :)

I think I've decided to go with David's Zinc 182 primer, and then Chassis black paint for my axles and other bits and bobs... a fair few forums seem to rate zinc182 as a primer.... any objections to that recipe here?

Been having a look at manor coatings on the web, Looks like good stuff, but they don't seem to do online sales. Think there might be a Teamac stockist up Camburn, I wil see what they have got.

Not too bothered about the cost, but corroless is about eighty quid for a five litre tin, and the only way I can get it is to pick it up from North Norfolk, so if I can get something else it would be better.

zinc 182 isn't a zinc rich, so no galvanic protection.

i found it quite mastic in texture when it's down. also chips more easily than i would have expected.

still it's cheap. i used it on the chassis and bunged black enamel over it.

manor zinc rich is more than that :D

Manor Zinc Rich Primer

I don't think you need to go nuts on a farm building tbh.

i do fancy trying Electrox | Zinc Rich Corrosion Protection Spray next or their repair patch kit

Damn it... Sucked in by advertising.... With a name like zinc 182, I just assumed it was high zinc!

you know it's zinc rich because you pick the tin up and think wtf, has someone filled it with bricks?!

there's no need to go totally crazy with this stuff. i find a chassis rots inside out, so it won't help too much with that.

when the weathers better i'll get a camera on the zinc 182 + cheap tractor enamel. think i stuck it on 2-3 years ago.

i'm going to get this all confused as i don't remember.

didn't ships paint their hulls with someone hardcore which got banned? so they sailed to international waters and did it there, then came back in.

what the hell was it?

A photo would be great thanks. My chassis will be galv to start with, so just want paint to hide that fact, and add a layer.

oh right, i wouldn't bother then.

either let it weather for 6 months or t-wash it, then paint with whatever top coat you fancy. will last for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaages, you lucky bugger :) (flexi topcoat will prevent cracking and touchups)

Well I was thinking that mordant solution, zinc 182, then chassis black would be pretty cheap compared to the chassis outlay and would hopefully last aaaaaaaages before the outer zinc eventually see's fresh air.

if you are wanting to go that route, then get a better zinc rich paint :)

can you use dinitrol 4941 straight onto galv? that might be a good, quick way of protecting it. easy to repair as well.

Seems to be an unhealthy lack of undercoat talked about chaps.

Prime....... Undercoat.........Topcoat.......

Its a system used for the last 200 years for a reason.............. ;)
