Went greenlaining with Blue beasty & Pikey yesterday,

Looked under bonnet today to see if i'd lost anything,

What could this fluid be ?

(engine of a D1 300tdi)

It feels a tad like oil,

However it also looks like the ready mixed antifreeze I re-filled my radiator with,

Looked at thermostat to see if the 1/2 inch plug has leaked, appears to be dry, even around the bleed valve,

Ideas ?

Depends what colour your antifreeze is although red could be PS fluid or gearbox if you have an oil cooler on it

I know my PAS pump in knackered, so maybe coming from there,

Checked all hose's. bottom rad hose is corroded near the top,

Might take it on run and see if its coming out the thermostat plug,

Dont want to do a PAS replacement

you may have a pin hole in rad or other leak that doesnt show till it gets hot ,something your likely to get with engine running and very little air flow through rad com[pared to 50mph on the road, if its oil its had water mixed with it

changing the PAS pump is easy peasy, and that is a bit luminous to be PAS fluid IMO, PAS is more of a dark red. I know because one of my pipes let go and sprayed it EVERYWHERE

I get a deposit like that around my radiator expansion bottle lid after a long run. It blows out of the breather hole in the top of the cap. As it dries out it concentrates the colour and if it is indeed coolant it will feel a bit 'oily' compared to water on its own because it's full of ethylene glycol. PAS fluid is usually darker and is slightly translucent.
