Hi everyone

I have a 2003 freel;ander td4 does anyone know where I might get it rechipped to increase performance?
I am in Carlisle

Regards
Simon

Hi just my own opinion ,that re chipping is exspensive and can be hassle. . .better option is to fit a go faster gismo [you can get them on ebay] the one i bought is made in germany, and you can fit it yourself in bout an hour, you have a small screw that you fiddle about till you feel your getting the best power from it ,plus if your not happy or you wanna get rid of the car, plus another one hour and its back to standard. . .just as good as a re chip, lot less money , also changing the air filter to a better type improves yet further, i,m talking td4 here , the td4 is a strong engine and will handle a lot more grunt. . .as i said this is just my opinion and i have done these mods and happy with the results.

Could you tell me what plug in chip you brought if possible? there are so many on the market its really difficult to get any sound advice, I much prefer a recommendation from a fellow landie owner;)

ok . . .go into ebay and type in td4 box there are a lot of power cr boxes out there but i can recomend this guy to landy folk ,he knows his subject he will even phone you with advice, these are german units and work, he is a power seller and his ebay handle is javor6 31101966 he is from Abroath . . .ya have to bid, so go for it and wave goodbye to the v6 boys and gals. . . :D

hey thanks chap! however gotta persuade the purse holder first! but she is warming to the idea, Im gonna have a look see now:D

Hi,

For what it's worth, I got my Td4 Steptronic MY01 on january 6th in 2001, in october (after about 10.000 km) I had it rechipped by a local tuner (he took the chip off the ECUboard, modified the parameters and soldered back on the board) and imo it's one of the best things I ever did, the engine which was very good before but after the chipping it got much more "schwung" (got now about 140 bhp and 310 Nm of torque) and I have the impression that the JATCO autobox likes the extra power and torque as well, it selects more fluently now, also the engine seems to like much more the extra's as it has apparently not to "work" anymore. Done now about 40.000 kms with it and still enjoy it every day (as well as the Hippo as such as well of course). Take care.

was the detuned bmw engine in the td4 originally 140 bhp?

if so can't you look for a bmw performance chip to squeeze even more power from the lump?

with the added bhp surely you are going to add uprated brakes and possibly stiffen the suspension as the freelander does tend to really lean into the corners at speed!!

I think you will find it's more than just than a chip that determines the bhp of a car.
It maybe the same engine but with different engine management and intake system and manifolds and exhaust system and manifolds.
You would need to compare the entire spec to see the difference.

Hi,
About the BMW M47 engine we have in our Td4's. I did a quick search on Google for "BMW +M47" and I got a whole list of cars in which it is used with different bhp's, (as well as all the other engines available in the different types of cars)

If interested in the list, pse go to:

Have fun.

I can reflash the TD4 Bosch DDE4 ecu onboard just like superchips can, using the same system as they do.

If you need any info please dont hesetate to ring or email me.

The older method WAS to remove the the 29F400 44pin psop chip from the ecu and reflash with new data.(This is now a old and outdated method of doing things , But does the same job as the new serial tuning way)

regarding ADD ON boxes/gismos these are like tins of ronseal (They do what it says on the tin) BUT it will add fuel AT ALL rev ranges to gain its power, without adding extra critical torque to the Torque map/maps in the chip data.
This is ok to a certian extent BUT its not propper tuning, so a reflash is the best way to go in my opinion where ever you decide to get it done.

do you adjust the boost pressure aswell?
Or is it just the feulling that is altered?

Yes normaly i do but it realy depends on what performance the customer needs/wants

I would adjust what is needed to make it go well :)

Hi 4x4er .. . your correct in your assumption ,good thoughts , however not known to many the the the td4 free lander[free-bee] is rated as a top notch off road machine not a [soft roader] and has been proved in tough trails as such. . .in machine talk the braking system and also the suspension is well upgraded beyond a conventional [car] and as such you would not even consider any other upgrading even if you could get to 200bhp [by the way that has been done] and as for roll . baby this is the best in its class. . . hope this clears it , Ming.

I can tell you they do work i have used them now for some 80.000 miles ist on a 2002 td4 using a speed-buster chip which plugs into the ecu takes 2 mins to remove before a service and later on a 2005 td4 using one of the new style boxes as mentioned by an earlier thread javor6 31101966 as sold on e bay both worked really well and are available for sale if anyone is interested( please contact me ) the mid range is now excellent and that horrible 75mph in the outside lane oh my god the traffic has cleared has now gone i can stay with the rush hour after all :D no diference to fuel and remove in 1 min for servicing and warrenty issues i
