rear wiper motor?

out of interest after the rear wiper blade has finished if you know what i mean does it go back up to top out of sight so to speak as im away to look at mine which is hanging loose and you can swing from side to side with one finger lol
was gonna check motor etc and replace of required but was thinking if i get a new one does it need set etc or will it be sitting where is ment to before i fit it?

The wiper blade should stop out of sight. If it's loose it might just be where the arm fixes to the motor shaft. Not sure if this is a nut on the P38 to hold the arm onto the splined shaft, worth a quick look tho

Yes it should go back to top R/h out of sight. Sounds to be lose on splines park wiper motor then put in proper rest position and nip up nut on wiper shaft. Under plastic cap.

how you supposed to get into wiper from outside i can only lift the cap about 5mm and it hits the underside of top of boot lid area?? i thought you got into from the inside by removing the plastic covers etc!!
is there a wee trick to this lol as you wouldint get anything in there from the outside?

To get better access, switch the wiper on and when it's vertical, open the top tailgate..should stop the wiper. Probably have to practice a couple of times to get the right spot.
The wiper should start again the moment the tailgate is closed, to prevent this, just drape a coat etc. over the top edge of the lower tailgate to hold it slightly open...when your done just remove the coat and close the tailgate.

makes no diff with wiper motor on you just hear it the wiper is loose and in any position i want you can flick it right up with a ping of the finger so i have wiper sitting in middle of window vertical but cant see how i get this cap off or do anything as theres no room can only move/lift it a few mm and thats it touching the underside of top??

right got it off lol with a bit of assing about the wiper arm is completely smooth in side no teeth/spline lol and on the corresponding cog/motor they are there but faint!!
is it new wiper arm and motor then or chance a new wiper arm?

Try a new arm first. put a smear of copper grease, or ordinary grease on the shaft splines first, and don't go overboard tightening the nut.

See what they will cost locally then compare with the total cost from Ebay. Island 4x4 do a new arm AMR4954 for just £7.99 incl. VAT and it's a new one.

you have had more hassle with that car in the few weeks you have had it, than i have had with 20 years of owning classics, must make a note never to get a P38. oh sorry already written that down in 1995.
hope you finally get to enjoy that car soon, you really have put a lot of time money and effort in.bit of an inspiration.

maybe seems like inspirational but if i just got rid as it was that guy that ripped me off with it would have really won then and i would have had truly nothing so just to give myself a shake a try and stop feeling sorry lol this site has been a godsend!
