Disco 2 Rear Wiper Motor Cog

The motor in mine works and the shaft is free to move, but while it will complete a wipe cycle with help, it won't do another one without. I suspect that the plastic cog is knackered. I;ll know for sure when I have time to pull it out of the truck.
In the meantime, does anyone know if it is possible to get a replacement centre white cog for a rear wiper motor?

If the cog is the probem you should hear the motor running while the arm is not, i'd suspect the park switch rather than the cog, see this http://www.handyhowie.co.uk/handyhowie/Disco_Rear_Wiper_Motor.html

I can hear the motor running but the shaft does not turn unless it twist it firmly clockwise; then it completes the wipe action under its own power. I'll take it apart, clean all the contacts, grease everything and see if anything is obviously damaged.
Thanks for the EBay link to the cog Feathers, sadly it will not fit a D2 and the seller does not post to the UK. However, it does show that the right one might be available.

Those motors are a pain as the output shaft tends to seize up which can cause the gears to strip as you've found. Worth putting plenty of grease on the shaft when you rebuild it.

Success!....almost. Thanks to everyone for the advice.
I stripped the wiper mechanism. The motor was running fine, the shaft was free turning and the cog seemed in good shape; however, there was almost no grease in there and rust and crud were increasing friction enough to prevent it working. Disassembly, a good clean and lube with ACF50 and it worked well. I packed it with grease (including the shaft) and put it all back together. The plastic back was held together with cable ties as the clips were broken, so I sealed it with silicone sealant as a backup.
Unfortunately as soon as I tried to run it with the wiper arm attached it became clear that the splines in the arm were toast. Worse, the additional load seemed to cause the original problem to reappear. The wiper mechanism may have too much wear to deliver the torque required. The shaft on which the cog turns is kept tight with a press fit circlip and I may not have gotten it tight enough.
I'll start by replacing the arm as that is definitely trashed, but this will of course require stripping the rear door again to connect the washer fluid line. I suspect I will end up having to replace the motor as well.

Why not get a good one from a breakers? Good ones like Heathy on the D2 boys club forum will put you right.

Yup, replacing the wiper made no difference; the motor lacked the torque to complete the wiper action. With Genuine LR motors at £175, OEM at £125 and no-name aftermarket at £95, I've gone for a £25 one from a breakers with a 30 day warranty.

The irony is that I can see b***er all out of the back window anyway as a previous owner fitted privacy film to the back windows. I quite like it on the sides, but if I didn't think it would look weird I would strip it off the tailgate.

£25 one from a breakers was in really good condition. I added some more grease to the innards and to the shaft and installed it today. Works perfectly. Cheers all.
