So what is the point of the opening rear window on the FL1? It's so unique that few other cars have it.

Originally I thought it was for extra ventilation, but then I realised that you're not supposed to have it open while driving, simply due to the fact that fumes will enter the car.

What's the main purpose of it?

So the wife can put the shopping in the back without you having to get out to open the door for her.:)

But you naturally carry the shopping to the back of the car before you get inside the cabin. It would be more inconvenient to put the shopping down, go into the cabin, press the rear window switch down, wait for the window to open and then get out of the car and then put the shopping in. Sorry but I don't buy that lol.

or you could press and hold the button on the remote.....

I'm sure I read something about that before but when I actually got round to trying it, it didn't work, so I assumed I had mixed it up with something else.

Which button do you press or is there a sequence? With my last car, there was a way to open all the windows at the same time by pressing the fob buttons in a specific order.

iirc you hold down the unlock button.

If it's not that then you put the key in the lock and hold in the unlock position.

Press and hold the door open button to open the rear window.my remark about the shopping was supposed to be a joke:eek:

Yeah press the unlock button for a few seconds and it drops down. We use ours quite alot in the summer, never have a problem with fumes entering the cab. Also good to open it a little if you have a dog in the car. I love the opening back window, even though it's just something else to break (or freeze to the window seal in winter)

I think Land Rover designed it like that so when you have the 3 door softtop or remove the hardtop on a 3 door, you can get a better convertible open area.

I don't know why they state in the manual that the rear window should be up when driving as it has to remain down when you have the hardtop off:rolleyes:

don't think it's an issue if the roof is off, more than enough ventilation to stop fumes being drawn into the vehicle.

when the vehicle drives along, there is a low pressure area immediately behind the vehicle cause by the air it displaces. if the window is down, this low pressure are prevents the fumes from escaping and they are drawn along with the vehicle, and could potentially enter the vehicle.

It was originally designed to allow persons using said vehicle to place things in the boot in confined spaces where the door couldn't be opened
