I'm thinking of fitting a winch on the rear of my 90,
I have made a cradle out of 8mm steel which will be bolted through the chassis after i weld in anti crush tubes. I plan on accessing it through a flap in the rear floor. But the sticking point is what /where is it best to cut through the cross member.? obviously i will weld it up/seal it but wheres best to mount the fairlead

i looked into doin that but in the end opted for the easy option

best to cut out the entire centre section between the chassis rails as there is a lot of voids in there. Then remake it with a decent bit of steel to allow it to be single skin and strengthen the back of the chassis joining to it while you are in there

Resurecting an old thread here, sorry, but pressbrake, i have one of your 6mm rear Xmembers and extended legs, should i be ok to fit a winch directly to that??

Was thinking of fitting a winch to the rear of my 110 too but would prefer to not have the permanent etra overhang to to a 110 being abit longer at the rear than a 90

Have a reciever hitch however so might just make a winch cradle to mount to it and also might fit a reciever mount at the front of the rear tub so when not on the rear, I could put it in there and would still be of use once I brace it to the chassis underneath in some way.

Handy too to be able to take it off and mount it on the front of a trailer for winching non-runners onto it rather than having a couple of winches permanently fixed to both the Defender and the trailers.

something like these........Winch Mounting Plates + Brackets | Winch Parts + Winch Accessories | Winches | Northern Tool + Equipment

Haha, I know! :D

Mine is good and solid though. only has a tiny bit of surface rust at the bottom edges were the paint got rubbed off but that's it. I must give it a light sand and paint some day soon to prevent it actual proper rust setting in.
