Rear Tailgate Spring Replacement - Help

Apologies for the additional thread, but need help/reassurance.

Rear Tailgate is suffering lazy lock syndrome, so decided to start to replace the spring today. Read all the threads I could find and following the incstructions as best I can.
Rods all removed and locking mechanism removed, now the problems start.

Ordered the spring, but now not certain if they have sent the correct ones.

Have fitted it finally as per pics below, which appears to be the only way it will fit, but mechanism does not seem to be working correctly.

Can someone have a look to advise.

When I did mine I did it the hard way twice There are 2 springs in there!!
