when you say small hole how small mine is the van type freelander and what stops the plate from moving local l/r dealer said £500 to fix and indepentented said £280 to fix what do you guys think

It's been covered many times as a common fault,
usually on the drivers side

search for Creaking and Subframe - there are some nice pics of the location

Those prices are grossly overpriced. You can easily DIY it.

Under the carpet there is an inspection hole. Take the bung out and you'll be able to see the offending bolt and nut that refuses to pull the subframe tight to the chassis. You'll want to make this hole slightly larger by a few inches so you can fit a decent sized metal plate in the to fit under the nut.

hi i got the commercial van typeremoved the floor but cant c any bung to remove to c the nut there are some small type bung things in the floor but there don seem to be near rhe sub frame where the bolts come through are they on the floor or on the inner wheel arch thanks

As far as i can remember this hole is about two or three inches inwards from the front of the wheel arch. Now i remember the bung is painted the same colour as the body so it might not be easy to spot. You'll need to give it a right bash with a screwdriver underneath it to get it out. I can't remember what the bung was made of tbh.
