Got round to replacing the donut on the rear diff today, decided to just replace with a new one as I've returned the disco to standard height springs as I'm commuting to work in it and not going off road at the moment so...

Donut wasn't as bad as I thought but spigot bush was knackered, quick question, once I get the bugger out and put the new one in do I pack the bush with grease or just grease the pin on the diff?

Another question..the UJ on the other end seems fine in that it isn't rough and theres no play in it but it's very 'floppy' ! what I mean is there is no resistance when you move it..it you waggle the prop about it slaps from side to side...should I replace it whilst I've got the prop off?

Hi there TN, I would say your doughnut is fûcked as well.

If it were me I would be changing the doughnut, bush and U/j - then you will know that all is well.

Incidently do you know the trick of how to get these bushes out without a puller? Fill the middle with grease and the find something solid to fit inside the bush (broom handle or similar) and tap the end gently with a lump hammer and the compression of the grease will drive out the bush !

Cheers mate, I tried the grease method but just ended up with grease all over my hands and pants, my wife is beginning to wonder why I'm spending so much time in that garage! I've 'started' to beat the thing out with a chisel, luckily I'm off work until the 3rd Jan! Going to do the UJ as suggested by you and MPfive as it makes sense as you say with having the prop off plus I already have a couple of spare UJ's kicking around.

All the best...

I had to use some gentle heat and mole grips when I last changed it. I put on a 200 prop and drive flange last time. Fit and forget:)
