Rear prop alignment

Hi there I recently took off the rear prop donut and bungeed the prop out of the way to do my a frame replacement. After moving the prop about I noticed it had slid down the sluding joint quite far but I pushed it back in and thought no more. I fitted a new donut when all done on the a frame but it wouldnt line up exactly with the rear diff flange yoke. I had to jack a wheel up and turn it a bit to realign.
Now I have some vibes uphill in 3rd gear. Is it possible the sliding joint went too far and I mived it out of aligment without realising? If so, will there be marks there to realign or can I use another method?

Could be wrong, but if its not doing it at or above a certain speed (osolation in the drive train) then i dont think it would be prop related,

Did the same job on mine, did you put it back on the same way/position it came off ?
 
Unfortunately I believe that the prop still needs to be aligned despite only having one UJ.
Try and turn the prop on the diff around one turn and see if that makes a difference. If I'm right in thinking the bolt pattern is a triangle? Which means you have 2 more positions to try.

If non of them change or get rid of the vibration then it's likely the expanding part of the prop has moved. And then I guess the same method would apply until you've got rid of the vibration

Long process but would sort it in the end

It could also be bolts not tightened correctly( not trying to criticise) even a 'nip' extra tight could be the difference.
Or it could be a faulty doughnut
 
Thanks all its weird that it lined up before but not with new donut so I I think whatever has happened its in different alignment to before .
James, would it hurt to try realigning the prop?
One thing, I just checked and the welded on balance tab of metal on the prop had rusted and fallen off during the change, I guess that may explain the vibes now? Its only a piece the size of a 1p piece though would that make a difference?

its not uncommon for balance weights to rust off and unnoticed,generally as long as ujs are phased correct and props in good nick nothing else really matters,since youve got 1 you cant really get that wrong as other ends fixed to shaft, its worth a try running it with rear prop off first to prove its prop, then try refitting in another position did slide come apart ?

Thats the thing, I didnt think it did but it may have if the end of the slide was not splined and let it twist? Ill take a look at it too see if there's any alignment marks and then try with the prop off. One other thing, I left the old bush in as it looked well embedded. I have a new one, should I have changed this as well? It looks a pig to remove! Finaly, should all bolts face same direction? Cheers James
 
Thanks to Robh I was able to check prop alignment and it was perfect to my eye. Grease nipple in line with yolk stalk on the other piece of the prop. So im pretty sure thats all fine. The tab near the donut end is half gone but not sure if this is causing anything.
In the end I looked at rave and I had the bolts in all the same direction. I took it all apart and checked the bush ibside the prop which was not worn. I then refitted the donut with nut ends against metal and head end against rubber, each side. I then realised I left 3 washers out too! It drove much better after that but I still have some vibes but very faint. I checked my front ujs and they have play so that may account for the low level vibes.
Im annoyed because the donut already has a split after 30 miles fitted incorrectly! !! Its not bad but its annoying and all my bad! :rolleyes:
I still have a tiny bit of backlash after the new lower arms and bushes plus new a frame bj and bushes. That would be the front ujs. Next job.....

And I finally bought a 3t clark pro jack. Lifts the disco like it wasnt there and easily reaches rear axle from back of the car.
