my wifey took the rover for my daughter dance practice and while coming back the rear left window got struck and not going up!.

now I tried driver side switch and also the one on the door. it is not going up. i cant even hear the motor trying to push the window up.. it looks like it is dead.

is that the motor or the whole regulator? can i get some used one from the forum ?

thanks

It'll be the cable in the regulator. They corrode and eventually snap. You can just replace the cable or the entire regulator mechanism. You have to take the regulator out to replace the cable anyway so it would be easier (but more expensive) to replace the whole regulator. There are plenty of video guides on youtube.

Thanks.. just took the door card and could not see any corrosion on the motor .. it looks spot on without any rust (water damage etc).. but when I try to push the switch the motor is not working.. if the cable is damaged or snapped would the motor still works or it won't ? I can see some for less than £10 in eBay.. just want to make sure motor is fine before I order them. How to check whether motor is fine ? If I check the resistance of the motor, would that be fine ?

i checked the power connection coming to the motor using resistance setting I can see the voltage passing through. but I cannot check the motor as such as I cant reach the motor connection points with it fitted to the door.

99 times out of 100 it's the cable that has snapped because of water dripping onto the door. The motor hardly ever goes wrong, except when it's jammed up with broken cable, and the window switches are repeatedly pressed in an attempt to make it move.
It should be just a case of replacing the cable, unless you've burned the motor out testing it.

Got the cable. Apparently the plastic holding the regulator is broken. I put the new cable and tested it. It keeps getting tangled. I couldn't put the cable tightly. Any ideas ?

Thanks

I am doing one of these and I just can’t seem to get the cable tight enough. I bought a kit which needed modifying for the plastic bits to fit on the metal frame. I have given up till the weekend.

I've done so many rear window cables, I can do them in 30 minutes.

Some 3 - 4 years ago, I bought an aerosol of Tesco's multi-purpose maintenance oil. Every Autumn I take out all the screws that hold in the door cards and any other bit that provides access to the door's interior .Spray the content into every aperture that's available. This seems to work and also acts a bit like waxoyl when it runs down the inside of the door. So far, I haven't had to replace any window mechanisms. (touch wood).

You have to wind the cable around the drive drum so that it's tight, so two compensation springs are compressed. ;)
i did this and the spring was so tight and the guide didnt move at all. i thought the spring should be able to absorb little extra length of the cable but it cant take if it is bit longer than it could handle. i am getting another one and try it. otherwise I will be end up in buying the full regulator off ebay presume it would not this issue..

for me the plastic holding the cable to the regulator was broken..

i could see it may be because of the cable got struck and motor was trying to pull the cable so it broke the plastic..
so your idea could have worked..

Ok finally fixed it .

Two issues

1. The cable was twist because I put the cable on the drive wrong way. Top side to be put on the bottom of the drive , the end from bottom side to go top side where the motor sits , so no twisting when the motor rotating

2. The spring has to be tight as mentioned above (thank you)
