Hi Guys, new to the forum and looking for a bit of help.
The back door of our 1999 5 door xei freelander is stuck shut. The door wont budge, and the glass is not lowering.
Tryed using the key in the lock but nothing happens. When i press the button on the dashboard, all i get is a clicking noice coming from the back door.I have checked the fuse,it looked ok but i changed it anyway.

I am not very mechanically minded chaps. The freelander belongs to my wife.So any help yous can give me will be very much appreciated.
Thankyou Brian :)

There are a few possibilities here. The door won't release the catch unless the window is lowered. A window cable may have broken or the solenoid in the door handle may have ceased to function. Try to carefully open the door by raising the lip along the top of the door to release the glass. If it was a 3 door the roof could be lifted so this is what you are trying to achieve. If you get the door open it's off with the trim panel and into the innards.

i was just about to say that;) ..:D :D ........

Hi Allan, thanks for the reply. When you say raise the lip carefully.Do you mean the plastic trim just above the glass that separates it from the roor.
Not mechanically minded mate bare with me

Wont be able to try it till tomorow, wifes at the Bingo, think she has got lost
Let you know how i get on tomorow
otb Brian:)

The top of the glass seals against the roof, as there is no window surround. The plastic lip is attached to the roof and stops water running down the inside of the window. The window goes up behind this lip when it is closed, so needs some gentle levering to open the door without dropping the window

Cheers mate,give it a go tomorow :)

Hi guys, did as yous suggested.Levered the plastic trim from the top of the door.Thair was was a metal plate underneith that, secured by 5 screws.Loosened that of so the top of the glass was exposed.

Moment of truth, tryed the door....no joy
Thair is quite a bit of play in the door handle, when pulled towards you,but
the glass will not move the 2 inches or so that it has to.Making me think it could be the door handle.

Anything else i could try. Before i am forced to take it to a dealership.God the thought  you know what they are like.

Thanks guys for any help
Brian:confused:

do you have the emergency door release button on yours, inside the boot, rhs as you look at the boot ? sounds a bit like it's not getting the open signal from the handle.

key in lock should both lower and raise glass, pressing and holding unlock button on remote causes glass to lower.

have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting battery, as this will also cause the glass to lower on reconnection if the alarm is disarmed.

Checked in the boot mate.cant see any door release button.Just tryed the key in the lock, and holding the unlock button on the remote..no joy.

I shall be honest with you.I am a wee bit warey of disconnecting the battery. As i read somwhare that when the window goes back up,it beeps and goes back down, and the only way to stop itis by removing the fuse.

I will be only be to happy to be told i am wrong[expect to]

I think your suggestion about it not getting the open signal from the handle, could be right.

ignore the frit scared people. disconnect your battery and reconnect after 10 seconds. the glass should drop if you are lucky. make sure vehicle is fully unlocked (i.e. 2 button presses) before doing this. also make sure you have all the radio codes.
