ok chaps n chapesses hope you can help and that its not complicated, I have a defender 90 on an 85 plate but the rear diff that is fitted to it at the moment is a salsbury 110 apparently and isnt very well, me being thick hadnt realised it was discs on the back, as I have had what I thought was the drums cleaned out a while ago (full of mud) so assumed it was drum brakes.

I have purchased a 90 complete axle but this only has the drum brakes on, so how do I get this axle to fit, is it straight forward?

Thanks

Mandy

are you sure you have disc salisbury fitted and not discovery disc axle ,all axles will bolt up but salisbury would have different length prop, any defender axle pre 94 will be drum after disc, disc is better ,Redirect Notice salisbury axle

I was told it was a sals diff but looking at that pic you have posted im sure the drain plug on the one I have fitted is in a different place and I have recently had a rear prop fitted n im sure that was a standard size, now I am confused cos the guy who sold it to me said it was a sals axle and a good 4 x 4 mech has also said it is off the 110, my problem is now is that I have already purchased the replacment diff and its of a 92 model defender 90, so need to know what can be done really

thanks

On that pic - look at the rear diff pan (cover) - a Rover diff doesnt have a bolted on rear pan - it is welded and circular in shape. You cant mistake a Salisbury axle. as for Disc or drum, shirley that is easy to ascertain, by looking????

how much did you pay for the 90 axle with the drum brakes? and is it in good nick?

might be interested as mine is doing funny noises

yes it is the salsbury diff been and had a good old look at it today, gonna take it off have it recond if thats possible at a later date when funds are a bit better so for the time being the older 90 axle going on so that i can get it back on the road:D
