Rear diff breakdown

Recentlybroke down in NSpain 350 miles after 5year servise on vehicle owned since new
Problem oil from rear diff produced very smoker scenario. Result car off road for two weeks for repair.
Would appreciate comment on following-

Should the rear diff be inspected at service
What would cause rear diff to become a major problem after servicing
The Spannish garage said the problem was IRD malfunction caused by difference in tread depth between rear tyres (Latitude brand new) and front tyres (Synchrome 8k miles use). Any comment
Incidentally the repair in Spain was carried out incompetently and required UK work on return

The way the Diff/IRD/VCU are set up you must have the newer/bigger diameter tyres on the REAR otherwise the diff,IRD,VCU will be damaged!!!!

I believe you have to change at min VCU an ddiff on failure as its the VCU that makes the diff overwork and fail.

Did a garage fit your tyres? If so you may be able to claim compensation from the garage who fitted your tyres. They should know that a Feelander should always have new tyres on the rear.
Sorry just realised your new tyres were on rear! You are unlucky, the VCU do fail unfortunately and cause lots of damage

you need largest tyres in the rear, check rolling radius, and then tippex the vcu, is it a pre 2001 model?

as for the rear diff, service schedule is only check/top up fluid as necessary.

Hi model is 2005 why tippex vcu?
