Does snybody know how to activate the tail lights to be on when the day running lights are on. i've seen many facelifted Discovery 4's with them on, however the Land Rover dealer seems disinterested. I've a Discovery 4 Facelifted HSE, 64 reg, (2015 model)..
Many thanks, Kev.

Thanks for the comment Nielly. Day running lights are indeed front lights but I want the back lights on too - like all Land Rover and Range Rover have now as standard. I know it can be done I just don't know how.

Thanks for your comment too Brian47. I am aware day running lights only show to the front but I want the back lights on too. I have seen numerous Discoverys like mine with the back lights on when the day running lights are on, so I know it is possible. If you use the 'side light' switch, the day running lights on the front dim to 'side light' brightnes, so that's no good. I just need to know how it can be done.

Hi @kckev

Have you stopped and asked an owner of one of these motors? As they have had it done , may be the bet way to find out.
please let us knwo how it was done.

Cheers

Thank Freelance, but its not just a showroom thing. I have paid particular attention to this on the road. In the showroom they just turn the sidelights on - which makes the DRLs dim to sidelight brightness

Thanks again Neilly. If only I could stop someone who has this. They are either going in the opposite direction and I cant turn round quick enough, or I overtake them on the motorway, so cant really stop them or I haven't got time to follow then because I am usually working. If I did manage to, I am expecting to get a blank look and for the owner to say the car came like that. I have now seen quite a few from 14 reg to 66 reg and I don't imagine any of the owner have actually had the lights changed from how they bought the car. It must be the way the car was configured and I do believe a Land Rover could do it if someone was interested in finding out how, but they have refused to, in case they cause some damage. So any other ideas will be welcome

Electronically, it can probably be done with a handful of diodes or maybe a relay or two. But it would mean additional wiring, unless there really is something hidden deep in the vehicle configuration protocols.
TBH I would say that it's too much hassle and not really worth doing if your only reason for it is that you like it or want it.

wonder if it has to be turned on with diagnostics

have u got one, the iid by gap is the one to go for, if u send them an email , they will know what ccf settings u have

https://www.gap-diagnostic.com/products/iidtool/

seeing u can turn things on and off in the settings etc

would have thought it would just be easier to put the light switch onto auto and allow the system to turn the lights on when req

Might be worth an ask on the D3/4 forum some clever peeps on there, not to say theres none on here but enthusiasts are only slowly getting the D3/4s

Then how do you know they dont have dipped beam switched on from the stalk though ?? ... IMO if some feature like this is available it can be set only with dedicated tester ...i've read a D4 owner's handbook once to help a friend and there was nothing about such thing

Just put yer dipped lights on. Better light, more visible and safer. Also a lot less hassle. Don't go looking for problems that don't exist.

Thanks Brian47, I am quite sure there is a way to do it with a handful of diodes and relays, but the car is rather new to start botching things. I am certain there is a simple way of accessing a setting in the electronic configuration but I am trying to find out how.

to access the ccf settings u need a good diagnostics , like an iid , will allow u to turn things on and off

as @lynall mentioned , go over to the D4 forum, plenty of tech info there

Thanks gstuart, I think you could be right. I'll look into the D4 forum. I didn't know there was one. I just need to find someone who knows what they are doing to tell me what I need to do.

I can see they don't have dipped beam on because I look in my mirror when I have overtaken a Disco with rear lights on I can see if they are or not. Similarly when one approaches with DRLs on I look in my mirror to see if the back lights are on or not. I have also looked in my handbook and there is no mention of how to do it - hence my question on here.

Thanks for your advice goonarmy. I don't want to use my dipped headlights as they don't look as pretty as the DRLs. I wouldn't say the light was any better in daylight, so the safety aspect is not relevant. I'm not worried about hassle, I just want to know how to get the rear lights on when the DRLs are on. I know it is possible. I'm not looking for advice on whether I should look for problems that don't exist by the way. Its not a problem, its a question.
