Sorry ... couldn't resist. Got a pair on mine and they're useful for standing on but I actually can't think of any other use apart from clipping towing kit to when off-roading.

I've always assumed they were there to stop whatever you are towing from hitting the bodywork. Presumably for sharp turns/people who cannot reverse with a trailer hooked up.

they are made from thin alloy so wont stop a thing!

So what are they for? I've never really thought about it but I've always had a picture in my head of folks using them to bounce the Landy sideways when it's stuck.

I've used them for pulling and for standing on but other than that I've no idea. They're certainly not designed as bumpers or steps though

As far as I know they are in fact little bumpers to protect the corners of the cross members.

I read somewhere that they were for assisting to get the landy out of the mud if stuck, think an assistant bounces the landy up and down with them.

original purpose was military. It was so they didn't have to stop in a fire fight to pick up men.

I reversed into the corner of a wall ermm.. I mean the wall jumped out on me. Anyhow the grab handles did bugger all. Didn't sustain any damage mind you but my rear light did punch a hole in the wall

I've got some lightweight bumperettes i'm thinking about fitting to the 110, depth looks good enough to protect the lights.
