Hi all, anyone in here know of a stockist that has OEM rear crankshaft oil seals ( series 3, 2 1/4 petrol). Now I've got me engine out I don't wanna risk putting in a bitpart lookalike only to have to heave the lump out again in two weeks time. while I'm asking can any one tell me about the "T" seals that go in the bearing cap. Are they available and should they be replaced with the oil seal. Any advice appreciated.
Cheers, Les.:D

Err at the risk of you thinking im taking the **** out of you

A Land Rover Dealership will have a 100% Genuine OEM part!! and it will probably only cost you just a few shekels more, some places will do a free post on small bits

None taken, My local LR dealer is telling me that the rear seal for the 3 bearing motor is unavailable. As Pads and Crads do sell some OEM parts ( but not this bit ) I'm wondering if anyone knows of stockist who does.
Cheers, Les.:D

dunsfold landrover sell genuine parts oil seal and t seals they will send them to you , got mine from there and had no probs with them at all and fitting looks harder than it is , i found it easy mate, i did mine with the engine in so you should find it easier, there are 2 types of t seal cork and rubber and yes DO fit them the cork ones fitted my lump, in the manual it tells you , you need a special tool to fit the seals, these are little wedges that bolt to the block and stop the t seals snagging as the cap is refitted to the block i found some deft use of some feeler guages done the job just as well, all will become clear when you have the seals and the cap out the most difficult thing i found was hooking the seal spring together !(fiddly), when you get the kit you may be asked if you want a new seal retainer plate , they are expensive so i smeared grease on my original one and reused it , when you trim the seals down again use some feeler guages to get the correct length , its like a lot of things they look difficult until you have all the bits infront of you, if you know what end of a screw driver to use i promise you will have no probs with it . any more questions feel free and keep us posted on how you get on

sorry one more thing do you have a 3 main bearing engine or a 5 because the seals are diffrerent , the 3 needs the bearing cap out and the 5 has a seal that slips in behind the flywheel, you can tell the diffrerence by cast " webs" in the block of the 5

Yu can also tell by counting the number of main bearing caps

Cheers landybloke, I'm gonna look into Dunsfolds. The T seals do look fiddly and as you say clipping the retaining spring in place also looks fiddly.
Thanks for the advice.

no problem mate its what we are all here for, the t seals are cheap and so i would recomend getting 2 sets of each as i seem to remember that when i fitted them i knew that one slip of the feeler guages and the t seal snagging would have meant another trip to get another set , for the price of them you can atleast afford yourself one practice go first just to get the feel of them going in snag free, you also get some special grease with the kit for the seal so hope all goes well and keep me posted matey
