Hi just discovered my rear pads were metal on metal...oops.

Just fitted some new ones (will have to get the discs done sometime but need truck at moment and its too much for me) .

All went well untill i tried to fit the shims , just no room, pads went in with a squeeze and rubber mallet! but couldnt get one of the shims in let alone two.

Tried fitting with the pads then after the pads were in, just no room so put back togeather and test drove seemed fine certainly didnt squeal... will i come unstuck or could i wear the pads a bit then try to fit the shims in a week or so??

Thanks in advance (oh its a td5 110 yr 2000)

You can either wear em a bit then add the shims or give em a lick of copper grease. What make are the pads?

Chamfering the edges can also prevent squealing.

They were genuine came with the fitting kit for £33 didnt think that was two bad, think the copper grease would get the outside one in, but the inner is really tight...i was worried i had gone at it the wrong way, saw a thread saying you had to undo a 12 mm bolt and spin the caliper round?

If all the shims do is stop the brakes squealing i will wait till they start squealing! then fit them.
Thanks for your help
