Rear axle type?

Came to change a rear axle in a 200tdi (10 spline) discovery today the one i took out had thick half shafts and the new one had thinner halfshafts and about 4 inches from the flange bolts had a machined ring on the half shaft.

When i came to swap the discs over i thoight i could just swap the hub and bearing assembly but it seemed the stub axle is not long enough and i could not get both of the hub nuts on

Is it just a case of changing the stub axles aswell?

Yes, but shorter stubs are generally associated with 24 spline!

The axle has the locking rings with the little square on the inside does anyone know where to get these from, as the old axle had the d-shaped ones

These the locking things you on about?
